22 stunning examples of CSS3 animation

You no longer need Flash to create web-based animations and interactivity. Here are some of the best experiments in CSS3 animation to inspire you.

The latest CSS3 properties have opened a multitude of new doors to web designers and developers. It's now possible to create animations and interactivity entirely in CSS markup, without going near Flash, Silverlight or After Effects.
The inspirational experiments in CSS3 animation listed here show just what CSS is now capable of - and while some utilise the odd bit of JavaScript, no plug-ins are necessary. Be warned, though: because they were specifically created as experiments, most of these animations will only work in the very latest versions of web browsers (and some will also only work in specific browsers).
To see all our CSS3 posts, click here

01. Solar system

The animation is super-smooth - as long as you're using an updated browser, that is
You don't have to be a web design expert to appreciate this animated model of the solar system, another one of the best examples of CSS we've found. Created by Julian Garnier, it shows the eight planets orbiting the sun in 3D (yes, you read that right - despite what you got told at school, boffins recently decided that Pluto is no longer officially a planet).
The demo was inspired by similar projects by Alex Giron and Nicolas Gallager. It's one of a number of HTML, CSS and JavaScript projects to have been uploaded to CodePen, a new app created by CSS-Tricks creator Chris Coyier, Alex Vazquez and Tim Sabat to help designers and developers share and fork their work.

02. 3D page flip

This 3D page turn flips there and back again
Created by web designer and developer Fabrizio Bianchi, this fantastic 3D bending page flip effect is a CSS-only experiment. Be aware that it'll only work on browsers that support transform-style: preserve-3D.

03. Periodic table

At the start of the demo, the disparate elements gently fly towards each other
The periodic table of elements is a popular subject for designers to showcase new web technologies, and this latest CSS3 experiment is the most fun yet. Built by Barcelona-based web designer Ricardo Cabello - best known within the community as 'Mr Doob' - the demo starts with the animated elements hurtling through space towards each other to form a table.
You're then given the option to rotate them in three dimensions by dragging on your mouse. You can also switch between 'Table', 'Sphere', 'Helix', and 'Grid' views  by clicking the buttons at the bottom of the page.
Cabello created the experiment to see if he could use his three.js JavaScript library to replicate the effects used in a demo for the game engine famo.us. You can find full details on his Google+ page. In case you don't have access to a modern browser, Cabello has also posted this video of how the demo runs on an iPad 2:

04. CSS Creatures

css creatures
What will your CSS creature look like?
We all know that working in the design industry can sometimes become monotonous. So, take some time out from your busy schedule and have some creative fun with this cute little CSS project from Pittsburgh-based web designer and developer Bennett Feely.
CSS Creatures allows the user to design, create and animate their very own web-based friend. Like the sound of that? All you have to do is send a tweet to @CSSCreatures with your preferred colour, personality and features. Your CSS creature then appears on the site in under 25 seconds!

05. Bonfire Night safety infographic

The web infographic is aimed at kids in the UK attending Bonfire Night on Nov 5th
With Bonfire Night approaching in the UK, Col Morley and Igor Krestov of Blue Claw decided to put their CSS skills to work creating this fire safety infographic aimed at school-age children.
When viewed in a suitable browser, some elements of the infographic will animate. Rather than aiming at supersmooth, in-your-face visual effects, the flickering of the flames and the sparkling of the sparklers is simple, subtle - and, we think, all the more effective for it.
Inspired by Firefox's homepage Olympic flame over the summer of 2012, the infographic was created using layered graphics and CSS3 to aid in the process of transition of scale, movement and speed, explains Morley. "The bonfire is made up of several layered 'fire' shapes then playing around with key frames enabled stretching, opacity and by adding a warm glow renders a realistic flame effect.
"The spark that appears throughout the page was created using a similar technique. Three images were used to pulsate at different rates of scale, similar effect to how we animated the 'fearful cat'. The movement of the eyes on the hot dog was produced by mouse tracking code adding further interest to those who spotted that.
"The styling of the traditional blackboard theme gives the piece the right level and tone for the audience and enabled us to experiment with textures and fonts."

06. AT-AT Walker from Star Wars

 AT-AT Walker
AT-AT Walker by Anthony Calzadilla
This illustrated animation of AT-AT Walker from The Empire Strikes Back by Anthony Calzadilla is created entirely in CSS3. Click on the ‘view the bones’ link on the iPad and you can see how each part animates and functions. This great piece of work suggests we're going to see a lot more of CSS3 introduced with online gaming.

07. Chessboard Vacuum

We can stop looking at this any time we want. Any time. Easy.
You know those optical illusions you get that appear to be moving, even though they're static images? This isn't one of those. It's a mesmeric piece of CSS by Ana Tudor, in which a sort of chessboard slowly spins and mutates and rebuilds and spins and mutates and oh God we can't stop looking at it.

08. Futurama Animation

 Futurama
Futurama by Stu Nicholls
This entertaining CSS3 rollover created by Stu Nicholls enables you to horizontal-run your cursor along the image and watch Zoidberg from the sci-fi cartoon Futurama dance on the table. You can also repeatedly click on the image above and watch each animated state.

09. Responsive cat

The cat stretches to the width of the browser window
Japanese web designer and interactive director Masayuki Kido, aka Roxik, has created this animated kitty which stretches across the length of the browser window, and resizes accordingly as you reduce the window's width. Make it narrow enough and the word changes with hilarious consequences. And the fun doesn't end there - but we don't want to spoilt it, so go have a play now!

10. Animated Buttons

 Animated buttons
Animated Buttons demo
This series of demos, featuring icons by webiconset.com and a symbol font by Just Be Nice, showcase seven beautifully animated link elements with different styles, hover effects and active states. The animation is marvellous, although we're not to sure from a user perspective about the way the information is hidden until you hover over the link .

11. Original Hover Effects

 Original Hover Effects
Original Hover Effects demo by Alessio Atzeni
In another great demo series, Alessio Atzeni has created some brilliant CSS transitions. Hover over the thumbnail and the CSS animation reveals further information in a way that makes you go wow. There is a great selection of transitions with 10 different demos to choose from. If you want to integrate this rollover effect on your own site then follow this tutorial.

12. Mad-Manimation

 Mad-Manimation
Mad-Manimation by Anthony Calzadilla, Geri Coady and Andy Clarke
This animated title sequence for the hit TV drama Mad Men showcases what CSS3 animation has to offer in the form of ultra-smooth video. It was made by Anthony Calzadilla, Geri Coady and Andy Clarke, and if you work in web design, you'll notice a few familiar names and faces. To find out how it was created, see this blog post.
NOTE: This CSS3 animation only works in WebKit-based browsers, which include Safari and Chrome. Alternatively, you can watch it on the YouTube video above.

13. Safari Technology Demos

 Safari Technology Demos
Safari Technology Demos lets you gaze around the Apple Store
This demo lets you gaze around the Apple Store in 360 degrees - an amazing virtual scene in your web browser which you can navigate without the need for any additional plug-in software. CSS transforms are used to position six images in 3D space to form a cube with the user's viewpoint inside. As you navigate, the cube is rotated to reflect the new appropriate position. NOTE: Best viewed in Safari.

14. The Man from Hollywood

 Man from Hollywood
Man from Hollywood by Tyler Gaw
This kinetic type experiment made by Tyler Gaw uses advanced CSS3 selectors and CSS3 transitions, as well as a little JavaScript where necessary. NOTE: This demo only works on the following browsers: Chrome, Safari, and "kinda-sorta on Firefox 4+".

15. Animated Google Doodle

 Google Doodle
Google Doodle by CSS Creations
Inspired by Google's JavaScript-powered Doodle marking Eadweard J Muybridge's 182nd birthday, the guys at CSS Creations set out to achieve a pure CSS alternative using transitions against a background-image sprite. As a result, the CSS3 animation behaves almost exactly as the JavaScript original.

16. Interactive album covers

 Album covers
Album covers by bluedashed.com
Not only have @MrDenav and @lucasmarinm of bluedashed.com recreated some classic record covers using pure CSS, they've also made them react to music. Demonstrations include First Impressions by the Strokes and Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures. NOTE: Only works in Google Chrome.

17. Scrolling Coke Can

 Coke Can
Coke Can by Roman Cortes
Roman Cortes' Pure CSS coke can has been painstakingly assembled using fiendishly clever background-positioning, giving the convincing illusion that the can is rotating when a visitor scrolls left or right. (You may have noticed that this is actually CSS 2.1 rather than CSS3, but we loved it so much we couldn't resisting including it in this list!).

18. Animated 3D Super Mario Icon

 Animated 3D Super Mario
Animated 3D Super Mario by Andreas Jacob
Doesn't this just take you back? Andreas Jacob's retro Super Mario
leaps off the page using 3D transform and rotation to ruthless effect. A CSS3 animation to make you feel young again! NOTE: Supported browsers are Safari 5 & Chrome 14.

19. Animated Fail Whale

 Fail Whale
Fail Whale by Steve Dennis
Steve Dennis took Yiying Lu's famous Twitter fail whale to an all-new level when he recreated an animated version using pure CSS methods. This CSS3 animation also stands up surprisingly well in Internet Explorer 6! How about that?

20. 3D Clouds

 3D Clouds
3D Clouds by Jaume Sánchez
This experiment to create fluffy clouds using CSS3 3D Transforms and a bit of JavaScript is simply amazing. You move the mouse to rotate around and mouse wheel to zoom in and out, and hit space to generate a new cloud. It was made by Jaume Sánchez and inspired by Mr.Doob's WebGL clouds and Mark J. Harris' Real-Time Cloud Rendering for Games. For those wanting to try this CSS3 animation technique for themselves, there is also a tutorial worth checking out.
NOTE: Works on Firefox (faster if Nightly), Chrome and Safari.

21. The Cursor Monster

22. Movie posters

 Movie posters
Movie posters by Marco Kuiper
These movie posters, made by Marco Kuiper, are a great example of pretty powerful CSS3 animation and 3D effects. The perspective, transform and transition properties have been used to create a 3D animation effect when you hover over the movie posters.

Making Responsive Blogger Mobile Template: Advanced Tutorial

In future more people are going to use mobile phone as compared to the computers to be online, rather they are getting started now and that's why you are here. Lots of people prefer their mobile phone to read their emails. By consideration of this, lots of bloggers who are willing to secure their position in future have enabled mobile template of their blog. By one survey carried out 2010-13, it is seen that; more than 50% of your traffic is came from mobile devices especially in US, Asia & Africa, so you can now imagine what going to happen in future.

Responsive Blogger Mobile Template Editing Advanced Tutorial - ProBlogBooster

Multiple Screens, ONE DESIGN

Your site design is good for desktop but some of yours it get failed when it comes to small screen. Here is advanced tutorial described for making the responsive blogger HTML template compared to old fixed layout template in which you can not only able to configure the widgets to show an alternate content for mobile-view but also you will able to customize full mobile friendly template , place AdSense ad units only for mobile template too.

Blogger & other sites

By default blogger have provided only 7 templates which you can NOT edit as per your requirement or it may causes different look than the one you are on now. Also there are lots of site can provide free mobile template for your blog, even though they built a nice template for your site, they have some drawbacks like you cannot place AdSense ad widget, they gonna place their banner in your template more over some sites places ads and earn money from your mobile visitors. Main disadvantage of these site according to me is that, it makes your site links different than original, so social sharing state varies.

Learn how to make one design compatible for multiple screens.

Flexible or responsive template means one design which is automatically redesign itself according to the screen size. Consider following advantages of this tutorial;
  • Forget about maintaining separate website for mobile
  • It’s good in case of SEO.
  • Your site links are remained same so it doesn't cause any affect in social sharing statistics.
  • Browser’s user agent doesn't cause effect on the design.

Get started

  1. First go to Template >> Choose Mobile template >> Select Custom.
  2. Save
You can see preview of your site. It may look good for some bloggers. But we are here to make it nice and flexible.

Screen Detection

  1. Go to Template >> Edit HTML
  2. Add following code below <head> tag
<meta content='width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0' name='viewport'/>
This Meta viewport is used for detecting the screen size then fed it to CSS for redesign accordingly.

CSS Redesigning

We need to load CSS property for <body> according to screen-view:
Find <body> and replace it by following code:
<body expr:class='&quot;loading&quot; + data:blog.mobileClass'>

Widget Customization

Now we can allow particular widgets to be shown on mobile view. How?
Normally in HTML widget it defined as:
<b:widget id='ID-type' locked='true' title='Widget-Title'/>
Here you just need to add mobile tag to it
<b:widget id='ID-type' locked='true' mobile='yes' title='Widget-Title'/>
This mobile property tag will cause that widget to be shown in mobile view.

Mobile Property Tags Meaning
mobile=‘yes’ show in mobile-view
mobile='no' don’t show in mobile-view
mobile='only' show in only mobile-view

CSS Customization

Now actual hard work is started now. If you know CSS editing well then you can you following class to design you mobile template.
.mobile #sidebar-wrapper {
Display: none;
}

This class will not allow sidebar to be shown in mobile view.
Likewise described above, you just need to put .mobile class to each part of your old CSS class and define as per your requirement.

Advanced conditional CSS Customization

Learn to make web design according to screen-size conditions.
@media screen and (max-width : 320px) {
#sidebar-wrapper {
Display: none;
}

This class will not allow sidebar to be shown in mobile view if screen-size is less than 320px like for smartphones.
Example: for tablets
@media screen and (max-width : 768px) {

/* CSS for big size screens like tablets */

}

This class will load the CSS you have defined in it when screen size is less than 768px like tablets.

HTML Customization

Now we also make changes in HTML simultaneously. For this you just need to know following mobile condition
<b:if cond="data:blog.isMobile">
<!-- Show this for mobile-vew-->
<b:else/>
<!-- Show this if it’s not mobile screen or for desktop view -->
</b:if>

What you learn

Responsive template is also important as your current template playing role for visitors. It makes considerably change in your bounce rate. We really need to be aware and have to grab a good position in the market.

What Next

In next tutorial we are actually going to edit complete CSS and HTML of blogger template and will see how to develop it according to the screen-view.
Stay addicted.

What Should I Do If I Don’t Get Google Adsense Approval?

Hello Everybody,
In this post i will tell you “What to do If you don’t get Approval for AdSense” There are many bloggers who are not getting their Google AdSense approval. There are many factors by which your adsense account may not be approved. So, To understand AdSense properly you have to read this post completely and carefully. This post will Guide you to every tactics which you should know “If you didn’t getting your AdSense Approval”. There are some blogger they depend on Google AdSense and they think that they will be getting approval easily and they can earn money but the truth is that they won’t getting approval by some reason and they ultimately leave blogging. That’s Why I advise you to read this post completely and earn $50-$100 a day without AdSense.

What is Adsense?

AdSense is the first advertising network that comes in mind of every blogger for his/her blog. Google AdSense delivers very premium ads to any niches of the blog.This is the thing which makes AdSense unique from other ad networks.
But Nowadays, Its very very much difficult to get an approval.

Google Adsense Features

1. Premium Ads
2. Eye-catchy Designs of the ads
3. High Paying
Every blogger has dream to earn many many revenue from AdSense but its not the truth. Over 90% of newbie blogger think like this.. and when they getting good traffic like 100-200 visitors per/day they think that this is the right time.. But its not the truth. That’s why i given you a chart of minimum requirements of Google adsense.
  • Must have a website/blog.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • For those any blog from India and other Asian countries, to get an approval for AdSense your blog must be at least 6 months old. But if you have a quality blog/website then u can get it within 2 months.
  • The content on your blog must be self written.
  • No pornography content (Images, Graphics, etc..)
  • Always try to post at least 15-20 articles of good quality and fair length before applying for AdSense.

What are those things to do if you don’t get Google AdSense Approval?

1. Try Alternatives

There are hundreds of different ad networks in the internet but to choose right one is quite difficult. So, I will tell some alternatives of Google AdSense which will pay you higher revenue.

 Imran Uddin one of the famous blogger in India. After the case study he said that if you have blog/website with 1000 unique visitors per/day then you can must be able to earn almost $4-5 a day on an average from AdSense… If you don’t getting approval for Google AdSense then you must select their alternatives which will not pay as AdSense but at least $2-3 per day on an average with Google AdSense alternatives.”
List of AdSense Alternatives are:
1. Media.net: After Google AdSense the second thing comes in mind is media.net which gives high competition to Google AdSense. If you don’t get approval then you must go with media.net
2. BuySellAds : Its quite difficult to get approval for BuySellAds. Once, if you get approval for Buysellads then you can generate more than Google AdSense. only if your blog have niche/topic of Blogging, Tech and SEO.
3. Infolinks: It has very awesome features like text-based advertising, Search-based ads.. etc. It is strongly re-commanded for all bloggers who are small publisher. Chances of Approval for infolinks is very much.
4. Other alternatives are; Chitika, Adversal, Tribal Fusion, Ad fly.. etc. which will also pay good revenue as AdSense..

Do Affiliate Marketing

Affiliated marketing is Good way to earn more and more money if you have a good traffic and have good blog reputation. Affiliate marketing is little a bit tough in starting but once, you familiar with it then you can earn more than $500 a day. Yes its true.. $500 a day only if your blog has good reputation and good traffic. The best Affiliate networks  are clickbank, Neverblue, Amazon affiliation.. etc.

Ask your Friend to Share His/Her AdSense Account with you

All bloggers have some good blogger friends or fellow who have already active AdSense account. Join them and earn money by their AdSense. Its heard very interesting?
Google recently launched its new feature of AdSense that is ‘you share a single AdSense account with multiple members. and create a separate channel and increase your earning’. So ask your friend or your fellow bloggers to share his/her AdSense account with you and if your friend share his/her AdSense with you then place ads at right place and earn money.

Earn Money by Offering your Services..

 Keep in mind that “If you are good at something then don’t do it for free” so you can offer your services to others and earn money from it.
For example: If you have good blogging experience of blogging and SEO then you can start your own blogging coaching or if you are good in designing or article writing then do it for others and earn money. in this way you can make some good amount of money per month.

 Do Direct Advertising

This tips is for those bloggers who have good traffic and have idea to create banner for their blogs. Direct advertising will give you more earning than Google AdSense.
If you don’t get your AdSense approval then don’t be worried. Just focus on how to increase your skills. Generate more and more traffic and then a day comes you will be a professional blogger and then you can earn easily $50-$100 a day without doing anything.

That’s the end of our posts. Hope you will like it. If you know any other way to earn money without AdSense then must comment below.

“Sharing Is Caring” so won’t be forget to share this post to different social networks.

Ban nutella from breakfast
Lately, I’ve been noticing a lot of love online for Nutella’s FB page. It’s called “The Nutella Breakfast Table.” As they state on their page, they don’t want anyone posting anything that they wouldn’t want said at their breakfast table. As I assume they’d be dining on Nutella, I’ll say it here instead.
Nutella is nutritionally void and shouldn’t be at the breakfast table.
And it’s a shame because Nutella does such great work helping fund school lunch programs and bringing awareness to the number of kids going to school without breakfast. But this can’t make up for the fact that they are giving kids Nutella for breakfast.
This “hazelnut spread” that looks suspiciously like thick chocolate sauce (or a spreadable candy bar) is healthwashed to pieces as a healthy breakfast option for kids.  It’s not breakfast, it’s a dessert and a questionable one at that. Call a dessert a dessert and move on, or be sued!
In the United States, Ferrero, maker of Nutella, was sued in a class action lawsuit for false advertising that led some to believe that Nutella carries nutritional and health benefits, being touted as ‘part of a nutritious breakfast’. They were sued for healthwashing! In April 2012, they paid $3 million to customers who were part of the claim. The settlement also required Ferrero to make changes to Nutella’s labelling and marketing.

What exactly these changes were are unclear, as they are clearly still healthwashing the heck out of this product.

Nutella Ingredients: sugar, modified palm oil, hazelnuts, cocoa, skimmed milk powder, whey powder, lecithin, and vanillin
Nutritional Breakdown: Nutella contains 70% saturated fat and processed sugar by weight. A two-tablespoon (37 gram) serving of Nutella contains 200 calories, including 99 calories from 11 grams of fat (3.5g of which are saturated) and 80 calories from 21 grams of sugar. In addition, the spread contains 15mg of sodium and 2g of protein per serving.

You read that correctly. Two tablespoons of Nutella contains 21 grams of sugar.
There’s no reason breakfast can’t be both healthy and delicious, but serving up sugar, modified vegetable oils and processed chocolate in the morning just isn’t the way to go.

Five reasons Nutella should be banned from your breakfast table:
1. The first ingredient is sugar.
Despite the lovely visual of hazelnuts tumbling across the screen in the television commercial, the first ingredient in Nutella is plain old, white, refined, most likely GMO sugar. Hazelnuts  make their appearance after sugar and palm oil. If we were to name this spread appropriately, we might call it “sugar palm oil spread”, but that doesn’t have the right ring to it. Unless you’re choosing to hop off your health train while on holidays in Paris, there’s no reason to choose Nutella for breakfast.
2. More sugar with your sugar?

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say you’re probably not spreading Nutella on celery sticks. It’s going on toast (probably the gluten-packed white kind) or crepes/pancakes (ditto). When the sugar from the refined carbohydrates meets the sugar from the chocolate spread, boom — there goes your energy and blood sugar balance for the day. Breakfasts such as these will in no way support the learning of children.
Nutella is a spreadable candy bar.
High sugar intake first thing in the morning will spike blood sugar levels, resulting in a plummet mid morning and contribute to poor concentration, hyper activity and aggression.

3. The second ingredient is modified vegetable oils.
You know how we feel about those, right? Vegetables don’t make oil, which means these so-called “vegetable oils” need to go through a heck of a lot of processing in order to become Nutella. Not good. We love fat, but it needs to come from natural, unprocessed sources otherwise we are eating cancer-contributing refined oils that only serve to promote inflammation in the body and challenge our heart, liver, brain, endocrine and nervous systems to function efficiently.
In my book UnDiet I wrote the following:
“These oils are highly processed and most commonly genetically modified, unless specifically labeled organic. Many of them, such as cottonseed and soy, carry loads of chemicals. The high heat processing destroys any nutrients that may naturally occur like vitamin E and omega-3 essential fatty acids. To make margarine the spreadable consistency people seem to dig, the oil must be hardened. This is done by hydrogenation or bubbling hydrogen through the vegetable oil at high temperature, a process that enables it to be solid at room temperature. This is the same property that makes it perfect as frosting on cakes. When the carbon bonds are saturated with hydrogen, the product is called a saturated fat or a hydrogenated oil.”
4. If you want the whole package, it’s not in the jar.
Treats are awesome. There’s nothing wrong with making something delicious and amazing and sharing it with your loved ones, especially when you’re celebrating a special occasion. If you are actually looking for a healthy spread, Nutella is not it. You are better off running some hazelnut through your food processor and adding a little honey and pinch of salt. Toss in some cacao if you want the chocolate vibe. But check this comparison.
Nutella vs. Hazelnuts
Per 1 Tbs (19 grams)/ Approx 14 hazelnuts
Calories
Nutella: 100
Hazelnuts: 94
Protein
Nutella: 1 gram
Hazelnuts: 3 grams

Fat

Nutella: 6 grams
Hazelnuts: 11.5 grams

Carbs

Nutella: 11grams
1 gram from Fibre
11 grams from Sugar
Hazelnuts: 3 grams
2 grams from Fibre
0.85 grams from Sugar
Vitamin E
Nutella: 10 % (RDI)
Hazelnuts: 42% (RDI)
Now don’t go getting scared about the fat content. The fat in whole hazelnuts is the great brain-fuelling, energy-moderating kind.
5. There are so many better options out there.
Honestly — why start your day with processed chocolate spread when you can start it with amazing oatmeal or a smoothie or even pastured eggs?
If your answer is “because it’s delicious,” that choice is yours, but your answer shouldn’t be “because it’s the healthy option.”

How to Pick the Topic of Your Infographic

Of all the decisions you make when creating an infographic, it may be the first that’s ultimately the most important: what topic to cover. Even the most well-researched and well-designed infographic will go ignored if what it’s about isn’t compelling enough.
So how do you go about finding the right topic for your infographic? The first step is to define your goals. Are you trying to generate traffic? Or just find a more effective way to communicate to your current audience? Who specifically are you trying to reach? Once you understand what you want this infographic to accomplish, you can start the hunt for the right topic. Here are a few tips + an infographic to help you to pick the topic!

Make it newsworthy

Check your Facebook. Skim your Twitter feed. Look at trends (check “6 sources where to look for hot trends”). Consult the paper (yes, an actual physical one!) if you have to. What’s being talked about right now? It’s likely that people are looking for more about that topic, so if you can get your infographic out quickly, you’ll be able to ride the wave of interest. Consider how what’s going on the news has a relationship to your blog, your industry, or your company. In fact, it may be better if it initially doesn’t seem related at all. If it’s unexpected, it will draw more attention.

Educate

It’s in the name – people look to infographics for information. The ones that are the most successful open our eyes to something we didn’t know before. So ask yourself, what do I find fascinating about my field? What drew me to it in the first place? What may other people not know or hold misconceptions about regarding this particular area? Then the challenge is finding a way to convey that information in a clear and visual way that people will be able to take in almost instantaneously. This is something a good designer can work with you to do.

Ask your audience

Not sure what people are interested in? Don’t guess what people want to know about; find out! You may be surprised by how much feedback you get. People want to be involved in the process, and it also has the added benefit of getting them invested in your idea. Once you launch the infographic, they’ll be that much more likely to share it. So where do you ask? On your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, via email, on the phone – anywhere you can. You can also use a tool like SurveyMonkey to run a more formal poll if you find that helpful.

Don’t sell

If your goal is to generate traffic from your infographic, you can’t think of it as a direct sales tool. Infographics that are very salesy don’t get much traction. No one wants to be sold to, even if it’s pretty to look at. Find a topic that allows you to speak about your industry or showcase your expertise – but in an interesting way. Think of it like a commercial. You’re more likely to pay attention if it’s entertaining you. In fact, many commercials spend very little time selling the product; instead, they just gain your attention and remind you of the brand. Your infographic should be similar, engaging visitors first and then drawing them into the rest of the site where you can give your sales pitch – after they already like you and want to hear what you have to say.

Be on the cutting edge

Find out what change is on the horizon. Is there new research that was just published? Are there trends that are just starting to emerge? You can use the infographic to create a compelling argument for where those in the know predict things will go, or to share the latest information out there. As much as it can be useful to consult the paper or Twitter, your goal isn’t to find out what recently happened that’s capturing attention, but what’s going to happen that will capture attention. Consult industry publications, talk to industry experts, and talk with professors in your field

Ask yourself

Ask yourself this one question: would this infographic interest me? If the answer is yes, then it’s likely that there will be other people out there who agree. Often, the best sign of a good topic is how passionate you feel about it.
